Hi, it’s Antonio!

My name is Antonio Delgado and I have a degree in Translation and Interlinguistic Mediation from the University of Valencia. Furthermore I completed the last year of my degree at the University of Innsbruck, which helped me a lot to get in touch with the different German dialects, something that is not usually possible in conventional classrooms when learning languages.

Why Learninginvivo?

Learninginvivo emerges as an alternative teaching concept. We are used to studying languages in unnatural learning environments that do not reflect the diversity of real communication, resulting in artificial outcomes: repetitive and constraining memorization of structures is encouraged while actual language learning is hindered. Many students who would otherwise like to achieve a good command of the language lack the ability to appreciate the different varieties and realities that the language has to offer because they have only been taught the standard language. What is the point in talking about how authentic and unique the Tyrolean or Swiss German accents are? What is the point of talking about how beautiful or curious the English of Australia or the Spanish of Granada is if we have not had real contact with them to understand what makes the speech of those regions so special?

How do we work?

Our message is that languages should be learnt in their communicative context, giving visibility to their different linguistic realities and possibilities. There is a widespread belief that a language is a dynamic living thing, something that moves and flows like water – this is precisely our starting point. Language must be taken as an object of study when it is in active circulation. In this way, we promote language learning based on its use in real contexts and everyday situations. At the same time as we encourage language immersion, we also discover the culture and history behind it in depth.

We are not opposed to the use of teaching books – on the contrary, we consider dictionaries to be essential reference tools. However, we are of the opinion that book learning, without proper supervision, does not lead to the best results. While it is true that you can learn a language by this method, you will never have the same skills as someone who knows the different realities that each language offers in the different areas where it is spoken. Following this idea and in line with our teaching method, in our class there will always be a main teacher and another instructor whose role will focus on showing the phonetic and cultural aspects of their region. This second language teacher will be essential to create a real bond with the language so that it is unnecessary to travel to different parts of the country to learn the different specificities of the target language.

Finally, in a world as globalised as the one in which we live, the use of new technologies has developed to such an extent that to miss the opportunity to combine different technologies would be to miss out on numerous learning opportunities. This has led to a great development of the new possibilities offered by technology. Thanks to lexicographic programmes, which are tools that help in the creation of dictionaries, we can offer personalised analyses of the language of each of our students, which allows us to guide them, give them individualised classes and help them to fully develop their potential.
